Coronavirus Positivity Under 1 Percent In IL; 298 Cases Reported

ILLINOIS — Days after Illinois fully reopened as Phase 5 began, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported that the state's rolling seven-day positivity rate on all tests conducted dipped below 1 percent, falling to .9 percent on Sunday.

The positivity rate on individuals tested is at 1.2 percent.

Though reported case numbers tend to decrease over the weekend, the state reported 298 new cases on Sunday and 11 additional deaths, with those who died ranging in age from a woman in her 20s to women in their 90s. That brings Illinois' death toll to 23,061 since March 2020.

The new numbers come after all capacity limits were lifted on Friday and new case counts have fluctuated, going from the 200s to the low 400s over the past week.

As of Sunday night, 625 peopled to be in the hospital with COVID-19, with 180 patients in the ICU and 93 patients on ventilators.

IDPH also reported than more than 69 percent of Illinois adults have received at least one vaccine shot and 52 percent are fully vaccinated, according to CDC data. Anyone age 12 and older is eligible to be vaccinated now in Illinois.

While some summer events have been canceled again for 2021 or scaled back, others are going ahead as planned this summer, including Lollapalooza and the Taste of Chicago To-Go.
