Drug Activity In Grocery Store Parking Lot Yields 7 Arrests: Police

Resident complaints prompted a probe that resulted in 11 felony charges, authorities said.

CHICAGO ? Seven people face drug charges following resident complaints of dealing in and around a grocery store parking lot in Chicago?s South Loop neighborhood, police said Tuesday.

Investigators conducted a probe that yielded 11 total felony manufacture/delivery charges, according to the Cook County Sheriff?s Office.

?Over the course of several weeks, investigators identified the dealers selling in the area of Roosevelt and Wabash Avenue through multiple undercover buys,? the sheriff?s office said in a social media post.

Investigators arrested six Chicago residents on Nov. 25 for selling cannabis, according to the sheriff?s office:

  • James Macklin, 47, of the 1900 block of East 73rd Place;
  • Richard King, 34, of the 6800 block of South Lowe Avenue;
  • Fred Clarke, 33, of the 8800 block of South Burley Avenue;
  • Diane Jones, 37, of the 3600 block of South Rhodes Avenue;
  • Edward Coaks, 27, of the 12000 block of South Emerald Avenue;
  • Kylen Washington, 21, of the 1800 block of South Racine Avenue.

A seventh person, 36-year-old Eric Harrington, was being held on unrelated charges at Cook County Jail, authorities said, adding he was processed Tuesday on the felony cannabis delivery charge.
