ILLINOIS — It was about a year ago that President Donald Trump said he expected the country to be fully reopened and "raring to go" by Easter — last Easter. But when the holiday came, many stores remained shuttered — not necessarily by choice.

This year, with more than 143 million Americans at least partially vaccinated, according to the CDC, life looks a bit closer to normal, and stores that plan to close on April 4 will do so to celebrate the holiday — and give essential workers a much-needed break — rather than to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

If you plan to venture out on Easter — or really any other time — keep in mind that state health officials say to keep wearing masks in public and distancing from those outside your household or immediate social circle — even if you have been vaccinated. It will be months before enough people have been vaccinated to constitute "herd immunity," and in the meantime, many more people could die if masks and social distancing fall by the wayside.
