Englewood Shooting: 13 Wounded, Lightfoot Calls It 'Cowardice'
"It's a terrible tragedy and frankly an act of cowardice," Mayor Lightfoot told reporters on Sunday after a shooting that left 13 wounded.
ENGLEWOOD, IL — Friends and family had gathered at the home on the 5700 block of South May Street on what would have been Lonell Irvin's 23rd birthday — he was killed in April as he attempted a carjacking — but just hours after the gathering had started things took a turn still all too familiar in Chicago.
A dispute among people inside the home turned violent not long after midnight. Two people pulled guns. By the time police arrived, 13 people had been shot.
Some were shot inside the home, some outside.

The shooting came just a day after the mayor had touted that the city is about to end its third consecutive year with double digit reductions in both shootings and homicides.
"The only way that we are going to bring down violence across our city is if people come together, step up and say they're not going to tolerate this kind of bloodshed," Lightfoot said.
She urged anyone with information about what happened to come forward.
"Let their faith overcome their fear," she said. "Come forward with information."
A man found at the scene with a gun was arrested in connection with the shooting but has not officially been named a suspect. Marciano White, 37, was due in court Monday afternoon, according to ABC.
