Giant Ball Pit 'Beach' Opening At Navy Pier
More than a million antimicrobial and recyclable plastic balls will fill the Pier's Aon Grand Ballroom beginning Jan. 19.

CHICAGO, IL — It may be January, but you'll soon be able to go to a "beach" thanks to a huge immersive art installation at Navy Pier's Aon Grand Ballroom. According to Navy Pier's website, The Beach Chicago, created by New York-based designers, Snarkitecture, will soon give you a chance to "have a ball" — or more than a million of them — in the attraction, on display from Jan. 19 through Feb. 3. Yes, more than a million antimicrobial and translucent white recyclable plastic balls, in addition to umbrellas, signage, lifeguard chairs and deck chairs will fill the large ballroom, to imitate a day at the beach, according to Navy Pier.
The Beach Chicago, of course, also includes a pier for those wanting to watch people bask in the
"sea" of small spheres below.
Public hours for are listed on Navy Pier's The Beach Chicago web page. The attraction will be closed for private events on Tuesday, Jan. 22, Monday, Jan. 28 and Tuesday, Jan. 29.
