Hawaii-to-Chicago Flight with Screaming Baby and Toddler Ends With ...

How would you react if you had to sit next to this family for hours? You could "be a good human," and something like this might happen.

Imagine being stuck on a plane next to a pregnant mom with a screaming baby and a fussy toddler. And not just any flight, but a really long one with a couple of stops.

From Hawaii to Denver, to Detroit, to Chicago. Sounds like hell. Can you feel yourself grimacing a bit now just thinking about it?

Delta 2077 probably could have been the flight from hell with the screaming baby if not for the special, seemingly heaven-sent people sitting all around the mom taking on this journey with her little ones, from Hawaii, where they were stationed, to Chicago, where the family is moving.

They took the children in hand, comforted and quieted them, and gave mom a break.

"Yeah, I snuggled him, poop-stained onesie and all," writes Carrie Goldman, who posted a few comments and photos about this moment to her Portrait of Adoption blog Facebook page. "I gave him a bottle; he fell asleep; we bonded."

This is Alberto. He has been my buddy on my flight because his pregnant mama has her hands full with his screaming...

Goldman, an Evanston mother of three, authored the book Bullied: What Every Parent, Teacher and Kid Needs to Know About Ending the Cycle of Fear. On her Portrait of Adoption Facebook page, several people shared their reactions to her "everybody pitch in here" moment:

  • That is the nicest thing I have heard all day. Exactly, instead of judging poor moms, help them. I traveled with my twins at 6 weeks, and 12 weeks old, and on one flight a lady helped me get them on and off the plane! ...cThen on flight with United, I was frown on and the flight attendants wouldn't help at all.
  • You made a 60-year-old man cry. If I was 35, it woulda been harder ... maybe.
  • When we came back from China with our daughter we had just adopted, there were 20 other babies on the flight as well. All adjusting to new families. Not one person on that flight complained about all the crying babies.
  • Helps me believe that we really still are the amazing people we want to be.
  • Way to be a good human. Please rub off on more.
  • That is so awesome, not everyone on this planet is selfish and self centered. God bless your kind hearts!
