Heat Continues, Scattered Storms Possible: IL Weather

Storms on Friday afternoon are expected to bring frequent lightning and soaking downpours, the weather service said.

ILLINOIS — Warm temperatures will continue into the weekend as highs near 90 degrees are expected once again, according to the National Weather Service.

A high of 90 degrees is expected on Saturday, and a high of 89 on Sunday. There are chances of isolated to scattered thunderstorms on both Friday and Saturday, according to the weather service. Gusty winds up to 40 mph are possible, with a greater chance of storms on Friday evening and overnight into Saturday.

The weather service said Friday is poised to be the hottest day of the year. If you will be outdoors for an extended amount of time, you should watch for signs of heat-related illness.

If you experience muscle cramps, you should get to a cooler, air-conditioned place, drink water, or take a cool shower, the weather service said.
