Near 100-Degree Heat Index Before Storms Approach: IL Weather
Heat index values could hit 97 degrees on Tuesday, according to the weather service, and the rest of the week could bring storms.
ILLINOIS — Temperatures could reach the upper 90s on Tuesday, as another hot and humid day is expected, according to the National Weather Service. After Tuesday, temperatures will cool again to the 80s and there are some chances of showers and thunderstorms for the rest of the week.
The weather service said heat index values will peak around 97 degrees on Tuesday, and there is a chance of isolated storms Tuesday night, but most areas will remain dry.
The weather service said the best chances for storms are Wednesday afternoon and Friday night.

Wednesday will have a high of 89 degrees, Thursday a high of 80 and Friday a high of 82, according to the weather service. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible Wednesday as a cold front moves across the area. Severe weather is not expected, the weather service said, but there could be some locally heavy downpours with these storms.
Isolated rain showers are also possible Thursday, especially southeast of Interstate 55, and rain is possible Friday with storms on Friday night, according to the weather service.
