This Is Illinois' Best Haunted Place To Visit
October means getting in the spirit for Halloween, including visits to local haunts.

ILLINOIS — If you’re in for a real scare and not just an attraction, a list from The Daily Meal has the best haunted house to visit. “Current or former homes with a ghostly presence take on an especially eerie vibe, given they often come with tragic and personal tales of suicide, murder, or heartbreak,” The Daily Meal writes. “So we sought out real houses that are actually haunted for the ultimate scare.”
The Daily Meal consulted its past coverage and looked up reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor to come up with its list.
In Illinois, The Daily Meal deemed Hull House in Chicago as the best haunted house to visit.

Also known as the most haunted spot in the state, the house was founded back in 1889 by Jane Addams and Ellen Gates Starr as a refuge for newly arrived immigrants. The home has had claims of paranormal activity since its early days, including stories of a "woman in white" and the notorious "Devil Baby," a child who had cloven hooves, pointed ears, scaly skin and a tail. Addams, who denied the legend had any basis in reality, was rumored to have attempted to have the child baptized before locking him in the attic.
Many of the original Hull House buildings were torn down during construction of the University of Illinois- Chicago during the 1960s but rumors of hauntings persist. Sadly, the Jane Addams Hull House Museum closed in 2012, more than 120 years after it was founded, due to financial difficulties.
