Illinois Wireless Taxes, Fees Among Nation's Highest

If you usually yell some kind of profanity when you open your cell phone bill and see all those extra taxes and fees, you're not alone.
Illinoisans pay some of the highest state and local wireless taxes and fees in the nation, and that's before the federal government tacks on a special 6.64 percent surcharge, according to a new report by the Tax Foundation.
In fact, Illinois ranks among the Top 5 states with the highest wireless tax burden, and is one of thirteen states in which total taxes and fees account for more than 20 percent of customers’ cell phone bills.
