Infant on Life Support after Crash on Eisenhower Expressway

The 10-month-old boy was not properly secured in a carseat, police said.

FOREST PARK, IL — An infant boy is on life support following a two-vehicle crash early Sunday on the Eisenhower Expressway.

The child was one of three hurt in the 3 a.m. crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 290 near Desplaines Avenue in west suburban Forest Park, ABC-7 reports.

The infant, who has been identified by his grandmother Latonya Polk as T.J. Hughes Jr., suffered two broken legs, a broken arm and a skull fracture. He was traveling with his aunt, visiting his grandmother's house in Maywood for a post-Thanksgiving gathering. They were en route back to T.J.'s home in Chicago when they were hit.

A blue 2000 Hyundai Elantra driven by a 25-year-old Chicago woman was reportedly stopped in the right lane with its lights off, when it was rear-ended by a silver 2001 Honda Odyssey driven by a 50-year-old Chicago man, according to the report.

The 10-month-old boy, who police said was not properly secured in a proper child safety seat inside the Elantra, was injured and taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was put on life support.

The two adults were also taken to Loyola, but their conditions are not known Sunday afternoon. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
