MudCity Blu Performs at HF's Juneteenth Festival

Celebrating Black Culture and Heritage on June 19th with the Blues

Homewood-Flossmoor and surrounding communities will be celebrating Juneteenth this Saturday, June 19th on the grounds of the high school. The festivities are organized by YouMatter2, led by multi-talented and civic minded young "world changers." MudCity Blu will be opening the festivities which include live music, vendors, and activities for all ages. MudCity Blu is a power trio which includes Kendall Carter on guitar and vocals, Stacy Groove Girl Norris on drums, and Peyton McDowell on bass. The band got its start playing for the community at "Jazzin' and Jammin' in Bronzeville" (created by long time Bronzeville resident Anita Rebecchi), a venue that aimed to bring jazz and blues back to its historic city center. MudCity Blu was selected to represent Windy City Blues Society in the youth category at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 2020. Since then, they have continued to play in and around the Chicagoland area, have received an Intercontinental Music Award 2020 for blues interpretation, and have been featured on both WGN and FOX Chicago and other media outlets. MudCity Blu will be giving their own feel to classic and contemporary blues as well as performing originals which integrate many different influences. Come join them in at 12:45pm to kick off "Jubilee Day." For more info about Homewood-Flossmoor's Juneteenth go to: https://www.youmatter2.org/.
