Navy Pier Attempted Robbery Report Was a Lie: Police

Young man who claimed a robber shot him actually shot himself, police said.

CHICAGO, IL — A man who claimed he was held up at gunpoint near Navy Pier on Saturday and shot in the leg "actually shot himself," according to Chicago Police.

The report was filed at 2:20 a.m. by a 22-year-old man who claimed the attempted robbery took place in the 600 block of East Illinois Street. But police looked at video surveillance and "physical evidence" and decided the man shot himself, according to a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man was in stable condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
