ILLINOIS — 'Tis the season: Time to gather 'round the table and enjoy a holiday feast with those we love. But these days, despite increasing calls for retailers to give their employees a break during the holidays, Thanksgiving has become the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season. While Black Friday was long the day to kick off the holiday spending, now the turkey is barely digested before some retailers and shopping malls open their doors.
While some Chicago-area malls, such as Yorktown and The Promenade Bolingbrook, have made the call to remain closed on Thanksgiving Day, others will be open — some earlier than ever before.
