Passenger Dies During Chicago-to-Mexico Flight

Aero-Mexico jet made emergency landing in Houston Tuesday morning.

A flight from Chicago to Mexico was forced to land in Houston Tuesday morning after an 88-year-old passenger died aboard the Aero-Mexico jet. The flight landed at Bush Intercontinental Airport, where police, the fire department and the medical examiner boarded the plane.

A passenger tweeted photos from inside the cabin after Flight 683, which departed from O'Hare International Airport, landed in Houston just before 7 a.m. Central time. After the passenger was removed, the flight to Benito Juarez Airport resumed.

The man was traveling with his daughter and grandson. The grandson said the man had heart problems, according to police.

Fernando Del Rio, a passenger on board, told ABC News that the pilot asked if there was a doctor on board. Most passengers were sleeping. The flight left O'Hare around 1 a.m.

When the plane landed, passengers were asked to deplane so authorities in Houston could come aboard and remove the deceased.

"It's a sad thing because there were a lot of kids on the airplane and they saw the body," Del Rio said.
