Poll: Democrats Lead in Three Statewide Races

Plus, see the latest job approval numbers for Gov. Bruce Rauner and the General Assembly's Democratic leaders.

Democrats have significant leads over their Republican opponents in both Illinois’ U.S. Senate contest and the race for president, according to a new poll by the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute.

The Simon Poll also gauged voters’ opinions of Gov. Bruce Rauner, House Speaker Mike Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton, finding a strong majority of Illinois voters disapprove of the way state political leaders have been doing their jobs. But if there can be an edge in approval, it belongs to Rauner.

The normally low-profile race for Illinois comptroller, which has been characterized as a proxy war between Republican Rauner and Democrat Madigan, also was included in the survey.
