Rainy Weekend Ahead, Chance Of Severe Weather Saturday

On its Twitter page, the National Weather Service of Chicago said the area is swinging into the "green up" as the plants soak up the rain.

ILLINOIS — A rainy weekend is ahead for the Chicago area as temps in the 60s are expected. According to the National Weather Service forecast, a low risk of severe thunderstorms is also being monitored for Saturday.

Friday night will be dry with a low around 50 degrees. Patchy fog will start to develop after midnight, mainly north of Interstate 80, according to the weather service. A few isolated patches of dense fog are possible.

Saturday and Sunday will both be rainy, with highs of 66 and 61 degrees. According to the weather service, thunderstorms are also possible on Saturday, with the threats for the strongest thunderstorms from mid-day through mid-afternoon.

The storms could produce damaging winds, and even a brief tornado, primarily south of I-88, according to the weather service. Strong non-thunderstorm winds will develop Saturday evening, especially southeast of I-55, with gusts of 30 to 35 mph.

Waves of showers will start Saturday and last through Sunday, the weather service said.
