Snow, Sleet, Ice Could Impact Evening Commute: IL Weather

The National Weather Service has also issued a winter weather advisory for counties south and northwest of Chicago.

ILLINOIS — A winter weather advisory has been issued for counties south and west of Chicago as wintry precipitation hits the area Monday. According to the National Weather Service, an advisory is in effect for Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee and Will counties until 4 p.m., and for McHenry and Kane counties until 7 p.m.

According to the weather service, mixed precipitation including freezing rain is possible. Ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch are possible, as well as snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, especially along and north of Interstate 80.

As of 10 a.m., a wintry mix continued to move northward and will spread across northern Illinois on Monday afternoon, the weather service said on Twitter.

Slippery roads are possible due to freezing rain and sleet at times, according to the weather service. Briefly higher snowfall rates may also overlap with the start of the evening commute.
