Flights Canceled at O'Hare and Midway Airports: Update
Another 8 inches of snow expected by tonight.

CHICAGO, IL — In the second day of a weekend winter blast, more than 1,000 flights at Chicago's airports have been canceled. A winter storm warning remains in effect through Sunday night, and another 8 inches of snow is expected to fall.
At O'Hare Airport, 1,204 flights have been canceled and at Midway 164 flights were canceled as of 9 a.m. Sunday, according to real-time flight statistics provided by the Chicago Department of Aviation. By 7 p.m., the number of flights listed as canceled was 835 at O'Hare and 156 at Midway.
Visibility at both airports is less than half a mile.

Delays at O'Hare are now reportedly averaging one hour and 45 minutes, according to the FAA. In-flight arrival traffic is experiencing airborne delays of 15 minutes or less, according to the FAA.
As of 7 p.m., about 80 percent of departing flights at O'Hare are late, and 40 percent of arrivals are late. At Midway, more than 80 percent of departing flights are late, but 80 percent of arrivals are on time.

Arrival and departure delays at Midway are averaging 15 minutes.
A winter storm warning was issued for counties throughout the Chicago area. The storm warning includes Will, DuPage, Lake, Cook, McHenry and Kane counties, according to the National Weather Service. The warning took effect at 3 p.m. Saturday and is expected to remain in place through midnight on Sunday.
Travelers are encouraged to contact their respective airlines for up-to-date information.

On a related note, the Illinois Tollway mobilized its full fleet of 192 snowplows Sunday for a snow that could possibly also affect drivers during Monday morning commutes. The Tollway’s Snow Operations Center will be open to manage the agency’s systemwide response, and more than 200 staffers will be on the job.
