Southwest Airlines Jet Makes Emergency Landing at Midway Airport

A pilot decided to land Tuesday evening to investigate possible smoke in the cockpit during an Ohio-to-Colorado flight.

CHICAGO, IL — Possible "smoke in the cockpit" compelled a Southwest Airlines pilot to land at Midway Airport during a Columbus-t0-Denver flight Tuesday.

An emergency was declared aboard flight 2390 from Columbus, Ohio, and the flight diverted to Chicago. The jet landed shortly before 5 p.m. Central time. Five ambulances and the Chicago Fire Department met the plane, but that proved to be unnecessary. No injuries were reported.

"Following airport protocol, the tower sent emergency vehicles to meet the aircraft upon arrival," reads a Southwest Airlines statement. "The 112 customers and five crew members will continue to Denver on a different aircraft and are scheduled to arrive about one hour and 30 minutes behind schedule."
