Strong Thunderstorms Could Bring Hail, Heavy Rain, Gusty Winds Tonight

Storms are also in the forecast throughout the day on Wednesday.

Strong thunderstorms Tuesday night could bring heavy downpours, small hail and gusty winds to the Chicago area. 

A hazardous outlook issued for counties throughout northern Illinois calls for a significant thunderstorm risk Tuesday night. The storms could bring quarter-sized hail, thunderstorms, and wind speeds up to 60 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Widespread severe weather is not expected this afternoon and evening but a few storms could produce bursts of strong winds and some hail. Slow-moving storms could also produce local flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

The chance for thunderstorms continues on Wednesday with strong storms most likely during the mid-afternoon into the evening hours. Some of the thunderstorms could be severe.

Meanwhile, temperature are expected to continue to soar through the day Wednesday, reaching a high of 89 degrees in Chicago. 

Weather officials are encouraging area residents to be aware of weather conditions and to have multiple ways to receive warnings if any are issued for your area.
