On Thursday, most of the area remained below 70 degrees in the afternoon. The weather service said that has not happened in Chicago in July since 2015.

There is also a high swim risk on Friday on southern Lake Michigan beaches, due to 3 to 5-foot waves, according to the weather service. Swim conditions will improve Friday afternoon, but swims should stay out of the water during high waves.
