Tornado Risk, Severe Storms Possible For Chicago Area

The first round of storms will move into the area from 2 to 6 p.m., according to the weather service.

ILLINOIS — The risk for severe storms is increasing for Sunday afternoon as storms approach the Chicago area, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the weather service forecast, there is an elevated thunderstorm risk, a limited tornado risk, limited hail risk and elevated damaging wind risk.

Storms are expected Sunday afternoon into the evening, mainly along and north of Interstate 80, according to the weather service. Severe storms are possible across the whole area, and heavy rain may cause localized flooding.

The weather service said there is a second round of storms still possible for mid to late evening on Sunday as well.
