Tornadoes Touch Down In Central IL: Reports
The National Weather Service was reporting multiple brief tornadoes not far from Springfield.
ILLINOIS — While the Chicago area avoided most of the state's most severe weather Monday night, the National Weather Service confirmed multiple tornadoes in central Illinois Monday evening.
Tornadoes were spotted Sangamon County, including in Pleasant Plains, Mechanicsburg and Dawson, about 10 miles east of Springfield, including a brief touchdown near I-72, the National Weather Service reported.
Another tornado touched down near Niantic, west of Decatur in Macon County, around 6:35 p.m., according to WAND.

A tornado warning was also set to expire at 8:30 p.m. in Coles County, near Eastern Illinois University.

In the rest of the state, scattered showers could linger into Tuesday, mainly south of I-80,with another chance of showers Thursday. Highs will be in the low- to mid-60s for most of the week.
