For 150 years, The Standard Club has been a model of class and sophistication in the city of Chicago. It is a membership driven club that has consistently attracted the social and business leaders, the change agents and visionaries that share a common bond of social and civic responsibility. By any measure, The Standard Club can be considered the gold standard of respectability and class.

On Tuesday, September 24th, a stellar lineup of stand-up comedians will disregard 150 years of tradition, transforming one of the institution’s lounges into a classic comedy club for the entertainment of members and guests.

The showcase, dubbed “un-Standard Comedy” is produced and promoted by Highland Park, Illinois based Funnier By The Lake Comedy (FBTL) and includes professional, up-and-coming comedians from Chicago, the city that has for decades served as a comedic incubator—since before the word incubator was trendy.

FBTL was contacted by Linda Milberg, of The Standard Club, to kick off a new series of events the club has named, “Farm to Table Talent.” Each event will feature local performers. The un-Standard Comedy show aims to set a high bar for the series that is sure to attract a new generation of club members.

FBTL has been producing comedy showcases, as well as dinner-and-a-show and other special comedy events, at various venues across the north suburbs of Chicago, since 2014, including The Comedy Nosh, at Max and Benny’s in Northbrook, Serve Something Funny, at Maggiano’s in Vernon Hills, and Funnier By The Lake Comedy, at Madame Zuzu’s in Highland Park.

FBTL recently began adding Chicago venues to its eclectic calendar, including The Chicago House of ‘Za in the North Center neighborhood, and now The Standard Club of Chicago, in the South Loop.

The first un-Standard Comedy Show is hosted by Larry Bloom, features Sonal Aggarwal and Sabeen Sadiq and headliner Kevin Kellam.
