Watch Man Slurp Soup From Serving Ladle At Chicago Grocery Store
The Slurper's discourteous and unsanitary soup tasting was captured on a video that was posted on Reddit.
CHICAGO — A recent video taken at a Chicago grocery store shows "sampling" lowered to a disgusting level. In the footage, a man is seen slurping soup from a Mariano's salad bar straight from the serving ladle.
"Just saw this guy at the grocery store helping him self to the soups. This was his second flavor! SO GROSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" wrote bubbly48, the person who originally posted the video on Reddit.
The original poster claims the incident wasn't staged — "[j]ust gross," the poster added. And store security apparently stepped in before the poster could reach customer service, but the poster didn't reveal what type of consequences The Slurper — yes, we were inspired by bubbly48's "Seinfeld" reference when we named the unidentified man — suffered.

"[T]his guy is so comfortable doing it I have to believe he has done this before and not been caught," the poster wrote. "And there are probably other people doing other gross things. NO SOUP FOR ME!"
Naturally, bubbly48 wasn't the only one upset by The Slurper's lack of self-awareness in tasting the soup from the serving ladle. Not to mention the unsanitary conditions his actions introduced.

"How does someone think this is .... ok?," wrote one Reddit commenter. "This is disgusting."
"This is like one of the residents of Pawnee or the shoppers at Cloud 9 that they show in between scenes," wrote another commenter, referencing the TV shows "Parks and Recreation" and "Superstore," respectively. "This shouldn't be real."
Some Reddit commenters had their own ideas about what punishment should have occurred for this more-than-just-an-indiscretion, too.
"I was hoping someone would come swooping in and smack that ladle right outta their hand. No dice," wrote a commenter.
"At a minimum he should be forced to purchase all the soup. And the ladle," wrote commenter grimman. "If it were my store, I'd ban him too."
And grimman wasn't the only grocery store or service industry employee to chime in on the Reddit thread. Others in the field related their own experiences with customers' repulsive actions.
"I currently work in a supermarket in charge of our salad bar and stuff like this happens more often then it should," wrote commenter Feudalistic. "One time some older lady about 60 years old or so started using her hands to pick up all the salad toppings. I think that was the only time I have ever yelled at a customer. Surprised I didn't get fired for that one."
"As someone who has managed restaurants and bars it’s gross how true this is …," wrote commenter un_Must. "Actually had to sit down and explain to the owners that our reputation and any potential health code violations vastly outweigh the tiny food cost."
One commenter, however, did try to put a positive spin on The Slurper's distasteful and discourteous display.
"Biologically speaking, if they boil the soup after the incident (if it's something that can be boiled), they would have performed a (edit: almost) perfect sterilization," wrote TripplerX. "No organism that lives inside the mouth of a filthy man can survive boiling temperatures.
"It's like astronauts drinking urine water. Technically clean, but not anyone's first preference."
