16-Year-Old Had Guns, Drugs In Backpack While Fleeing Officers: Joliet Police

A second 16-year-old was also arrested after kicking an officer, police said.

JOLIET, IL ? Two 16-year-olds were arrested after one kicked a police officer and the other was found to be carrying guns and drugs in his backpack, Joliet police said.

Officers were patrolling in the 900 block of Lloyds Avenue around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday when their vehicle was obstructed by three males walking in the middle of the road, according to police, who said the officers stopped to address the males, but the trio refused to identify themselves.

One of the three, a 16-year-old boy, ran away with a backpack but was apprehended in the 500 block of Meeker Avenue and found to be carrying two loaded handguns ? one with a high-capacity magazine ? as well as additional ammunition and suspected Oxycodone, police said.

A second boy, also 16, was apprehended and kicked an officer, while the third male was not found despite a K-9 search, according to police.

The teen with the backpack was arrested on suspicion of armed violence, two counts of aggravated possession of a weapon, drug possession and obstructing an officer, police said, while the other was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery to an officer and obstructing an officer. Both were taken to the River Valley Juvenile Justice Center, according to police.
