Joliet Police Reject Gunman's Bribe Of Money, Vehicle In Exchange For Letting Him Go: English

JOLIET, IL ? The Joliet Police Department announced that 38-year-old resident Keith Bullock faces bribery charges as well as being an armed habitual criminal, possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, obstructing a peace officer, obstructing justice, criminal trespass to a vehicle and disorderly conduct.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 10:28 a.m. on Sunday, the officers responded to the 900 block of Plainfield Road for a man with a gun. A man had approached a woman in a vehicle and showed her he was armed with a handgun. He then attempted to enter the vehicle, but the victim was able to safely drive away, the police reports show.

Officers located a man matching the suspect description in a nearby laundromat and he was identified as Bullock. Officers tried to place Bullock into custody, but he began to resist by pulling away and refused commands to submit to arrest.

It was believed that Bullock was attempting to pull items from an officer's belt, English noted.

Officers were eventually able to secure Bullock. A loaded firearm and cash were located in a bag slung across Bullock?s chest. Bullock made comments to an officer in which he offered money and a vehicle if they let him free, English said, adding the Officer refused and he was charged with bribery.

The handgun that Bullock possessed was previously reported stolen.

Bullock continued to struggle with the officers at the Joliet Police Department, and he refused to cooperate with booking procedures. He was transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

Although Joliet police said that Bullock hailed from Chicago, the jail logs listed Bullock as residing in the 300 block of Joliet's Stone Street apartment units.
