On Monday, January 13th, road work began on McDonough Street between Airport Drive and Houbolt Road and is expected to last for approximately three weeks.

The road closure has a posted detour to West Jefferson Street, around the Joliet Regional Airport. During the closure of McDonough Street, motorists are encouraged to adhere to the posted speed limit, watch for workers and flaggers, and use extreme caution in the work zone area.

The road modifications are a part of the city’s Rock Run Interceptor Rehabilitation Project. According to the city, the road work will help to restore the structural integrity of the sanitary sewer interceptor while also reducing the amount of rain water that enters the sanitary system. The project will include installation of about 13,700 linear feet of 30-inch to 48-inch cured-in-place pipelining and is expected to be completed this summer.
