The United States now leads the world in COVID-19 cases, and thousands of cases are reported day after day. In addition to staying home, avoiding close contact, and thoroughly washing hands, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also suggests that everyone wear some form of a face covering. Joliet resident Sarah Dengler is helping the cause by donating hundreds of masks to healthcare providers, the City of Joliet Roadways and Fleet Services Division, as well as some family and friends.

Sarah, who has many friends in the healthcare field, saw the need for masks and decided to help. She tapped into her love for sewing and produced nearly 100 masks made from various colorful prints. Over the years, the 1998 Joliet Central High School graduate and married mother of one has used her talent to create blankets, Easter baskets, and Halloween bags.

In the midst of a pandemic, it’s always good to celebrate individuals doing amazing things in the community, like Sarah Dengler. Her kindness is needed and very much appreciated. As Mike Eulitz, the City of Joliet’s Public Assets Supervisor, wrote in a social media post praising Sarah, “You are what makes Joliet the City of Champions!!”
