He Used Pillow To Choke Woman Unconscious: Joliet Police

The victim was taken by Joliet Fire Department ambulance to St. Joe's hospital for treatment of her injuries, police said.

JOLIET, IL — A 52-year-old man has been arrested on aggravated domestic battery charges after police say Dwight Reed used a pillow to choke a Joliet woman unconscious as he punched her in the face several times through the pillow.

The crime happened on Monday morning and Reed was arrested on Wednesday night, Joliet police said. Joliet police arrest logs listed Reed as being a resident of suburban Glenwood.

Around 8:10 a.m. on Monday, Joliet officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of Madison Street for a domestic battery incident.

"Officers determined that a female adult victim had been battered by Reed, her fiancé," Joliet Police Sgt. Dwayne English stated. "Further investigation revealed that Reed entered a room where the victim was in bed at which time, he placed a pillow over her face and began punching her several times through the pillow. He then began to choke the victim to the point of losing consciousness."

Reed ran from the residence and the victim called 911, police said. A Joliet Fire Department ambulance brought the woman to the nearby AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

Around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Reed went to the Joliet Police Department to turn himself in, police said.
