Joliet District 86 Announces Summer Meal Schedule

Joliet Public Schools District 86 Provides Free Meals to Children

Joliet Public Schools District 86 will offer community members the opportunity to pick up free weekly meals for any child 18 years old and younger. Meals are available for curbside pick-up at two of the school district’s schools.

Meal distributions will take place on Thursdays from June 17, 2021 through July 15, 2021 at Dirksen Junior High, 203 S. Midland Avenue, and Gompers Junior High, 1501 Copperfield Avenue. Pick-up hours will be 6:30-7:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Families may receive up to one week’s worth of breakfasts and lunches per child each week.

In addition, Gompers will also host meal pick-ups on July 22 and July 29. Child’s names are not required at the pick-ups, but face masks are required. The curbside distributions will occur in the Midland Avenue (south of Jefferson Street) parking lot at Dirksen and the Briggs Street (south of U.S. 6) parking lot at Gompers.

Joliet Public Schools District 86, the fourth largest elementary school district in Illinois, has provided over 1.2 million meals for children since the school closure in mid-March 2020.
