Joliet Drug Dealer Too Dangerous To Release Under SAFE-T-Act: Judge Ewanic

JOLIET, IL ? For the fourth time in the past 15 years, 33-year-old Joliet resident and previously convicted Will County drug dealer Alexander Barrowman finds himself in the Will County jail. Last week, the Joliet Area Narcotics Squad took him away after raiding his house in the Shorewood area, in the 5400 block of Maha Court, in connection with allegations of dealing cocaine and ecstasy/Molly out of his house near River Road and Theodore Street.

Will County Judge Derek Ewanic ruled in favor of the prosecution, agreeing that Barrowman meets the dangerousness and willful flight standard under the SAFE-T-Act.

Barrowman is charged with two counts of possessing a controlled substance with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.

According to the petition to deny pretrial release, last Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 3:17 p.m., the Joliet Metropolitan Area Narcotics Squad raided Barrowman's house on Maha Court. The officers knocked and announced their presence and breached the door. Barrowman was found on the second floor and when asked if he had any contraband in the house, Barrowman "stated he had cocaine in the kitchen island, half a kilo of cocaine in the pantry, and a gun in the jacket pocket by the garage interior door," court files show.

The Joliet drug task force recovered the following items from Barrowman's house: two bags with 88.67 grams of cocaine in a kitchen drawer, 506.81 grams of cocaine in the kitchen pantry, 43 grams of marijuana on the kitchen counter, 8.59 grams/19 blue pills of ecstasy/Molly in a kitchen drawer, a black digital scale on the kitchen counter, a Springfield Armory Hellcat 9mmm pistol in a jacket pocket kept in the kitchen pantry, a Springfield Armory magazine with 89 9mm rounds found in a black safe in the master bedroom closet, prosecutors outlined for Judge Ewanic.

"United States currency was also located throughout the residence, with $3,331 on the kitchen table, $195 under the TV in the living room, $834 in the master bedroom dresser drawer, $100 found in master bedroom closet and an additional $40 found in master bedroom closet," prosecutors explained.

Barrowman has a 2018 conviction from Will County for delivery of a controlled substance that resulted in a four-year prison sentence to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

"The defendant is therefore prohibited from possessing a firearm," Will County's prosecutors revealed.
