Joliet Police Had To Remove Wanted Man From Car After Tinted Window Violation Traffic Stop: English

JOLIET, IL ? A 38-year-old Joliet man from the 400 block of Pico Street is back in the Will County Jail for the fourth time since August 2022. This week, Joliet police arrested Jose Sanchez on charges of resisting a peace officer plus an outstanding warrant for possessing a gun by a convicted felon, possessing a gun by a repeat offender and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

On Sunday, around 7:25 a.m., the officers pulled over a Kia in the parking lot of the BP gas station at 6 McDonough Street for a tinted window violation. Although a woman was the driver, the Joliet police officers recognized a familiar face sitting in the backseat ? Jose Sanchez. The officers knew that he had an active arrest warrant for the gun felonies.

"Sanchez refused to exit the vehicle despite numerous commands to do so. At one point, he held a small child and refused to place the child in their child seat," police spokesman Dwayne English announced.

He said the officers were able to open the vehicle door and safely remove the child from Sanchez and the child was given to the mother. Sanchez had to be removed from the vehicle, and he was placed into custody without further incident.

Sanchez remained in the Will County Jail as of Wednesday morning.
