The Joliet Slammers Is Partnering With the City and County

On Sunday, July 21, all are welcome to attend the Slammers game for a day of baseball, fun and learning about water conservation.

The City of Joliet and Will County are joining forces with the Joliet Slammers for a great initiative – water conservation. On Sunday, July 21, all are welcome to attend the Slammers game against the Gateway Grizzlies from Sauget. The two teams will battle on the baseball field as attendees enjoy a day dedicated to family fun and water conservation. The game will take place at DuPage Medical Group Field at 1 Mayor Art Schultz Drive in Joliet.

“We need our community to take action to reduce water waste, and this partnership with the Slammers to bring this message in a fun way is a grand slam,” said Joliet Mayor Bob O'Dekirk.

The County’s Resource Recovery and Energy division employees will be on hand along with the City’s Rethink Water campaign to pitch ideas to help residents conserve water and also save money.

“Water is an important resource, and finding ways to save it that also save money is a homerun,” said County Executive Larry Walsh.

In addition to County employees, the Home Depot of Joliet, Will County Forest Preserve District, the Conservation Foundation, and City employees will also be onsite to hand out water conservation items and answer questions.

Upon entering the ballpark, attendees will receive a water saving device as well as a raffle ticket/water saving pledge card to fill out and return to one of the six booths in the concourse area. In between innings, winners will be named. Prizes will range from home conservation kits up to a grand prize of an energy efficient dishwasher by Beko in Bolingbrook valued at $599.

The day will consist of other fun activities as well. The American Water Works Association’s mascot, Eddy the Water Drop, will throw out the first pitch and discuss running toilet issues. Children will be able to enjoy the bounce house provided by Channahon General Rental while the entire family will be treated to face painting by Lollipop painting. Kids can also run the bases and get player’s autographs following the game.

Gates to the July 21 game will open at 12:05 p.m., and the game will begin at 1:05 p.m. Tickets are $8 and be purchased in advance or day of on the Joliet Slammers’ website using the promo code WATER.
