Knutson’s first stop was Home Cut Donuts, home of ”the greatest doughnut on the planet,” according to him.
Knutson then headed to Merichka’s, which while technically not located in Joliet (it’s in Crest Hill) is an area institution. He chatted with manager Joe Zdralevich about the restaurant’s history, which began in 1933. The eatery is know for its famous poorboy sandwiches — and Zdralevich said the restaurant has sold more than seven million of them since the late 1950s.

The final Joliet hot spot featured in the show is downtown Joliet’s Chicken-N-Spice, famous for its chicken chunks. Owner Pat Reimer explained what makes the item — dubbed a “chicken tender on steroids” by Knutsen — so magical.
