Search Of DUI Suspect's Car Turns Up Ammunition, Open Booze: Joliet PD

JOLIET, IL ? A 26-year-old citizen of Joliet now faces several criminal charges following his weekend arrest in connection with a felony DUI.

Jorge Velez-Vasquez was charged and released on a notice to appear in Will County to answer to charges of aggravated DUI, DUI, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of ammunition, No FOID and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said that at 8:35 p.m. Sept. 7, officers conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge Ram near Third Avenue and Iowa Avenue for a registration violation.

During the traffic stop, police said Velez-Vasquez got out of the vehicle and refused commands from the officers. While the officers tried to conduct a pat-down search, he began to resist and pull away and was then detained, English said.

During the incident, police said his behavior indicated possible alcohol impairment, and he refused to perform field sobriety tests and was placed into custody.

Velez-Vasquez?s driver?s license was revoked, English pointed out.

During a search of the vehicle, English said his fellow officers recovered a loaded handgun magazine as well as suspected cocaine, cannabis and an open alcohol container.
