Sumbaum Cycle: Amazing Sales For Black Friday, Christmas Holidays
The nation's second-oldest bicycle store, Sumbaum Cycle is celebrating its 130th anniversary of being open in Joliet.

JOLIET ? As Sumbaum Cycle winds down its special year, its 130th anniversary of being open in Joliet, the nation's second-oldest bicycle shop wants everyone to know it's offering huge sales discounts for Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and for the Christmas shopping season.
Sumbaum is closed for Thanksgiving, but on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, Sumbaum will offer 20 percent off on all E-bikes, according to long-time Sumbaum Cycle Ted Sari.
Located at 114 N. Larkin Ave., across from the Tony's Fresh Market, Sumbaum will be open on Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sari wants everyone to know that Sumbaum carries the popular Aventon E-Bike. Several of the Aventon E-bikes are in stock and ready to sell. Sumbaum has carried the Aventon E-Bikes about six months now, Sari noted.
"It is just a real good value for the money. It comes with a lot of add-ons, and it is a real well-known brand," Sari explained of Aventon. "All of our E-bikes are UL certified, so they won't catch fire like some of the other brands," Sari pointed out.
A 20-percent sales discount can make a significant difference in terms of savings because E-Bikes typically start around $1,000, and many are priced around $2,000, Sari said.
These days, at least 30 percent of all bicycles sold inside Sumbaum Cycle are E-Bikes, Sari noted. The E-Bikes can reach speeds of around 28 mph. There are two main different types of E-bikes, ones designed for commuters and the others are the hybrids.
"We will still probably run a sale after Saturday, but it just won't be as big," Sari said, referring to his E-Bike inventory.
Accessories Also Marked Down 25 Percent
Even if you're not on the lookout for a new E-Bike or regular bike, Sumbaum is marking down its accessories by 25 percent this Friday and Saturday.
Accessories include items such as bike helmets, lights, shirts, tire pumps, bags and car racks for transporting bicycles.
And for the regular bikes, all of Sumbaum's Trek models will be reduced in price by 15 percent, and that sale isn't just for Black Friday and for Small Business Saturday.
"We will probably extend the Trek one for sure, anything that's not electric," Sari explained.
The Trek Marlin is one of Sumbaum's most popular starter bicycles this year.
"They start about $550, and they will go up to about $1,000," Sari said.

The dead of winter might not be an ideal time to ride your bicycle outside in Illinois, but the staff at Sumbaum consider it the perfect time to bring your bicycle to their shop for an annual tune-up.
Starting Jan. 3, and lasting through March 2, Sumbaum will be offering $100 off on all Level 3 bicycle tuneups, $50 off on Level 2 tune-ups, $25 off on Level 3 tuneups and $20 off a hydraulic brake service.
During Tuesday's store interview, Joliet Patch asked the Sumbaum owner to describe any changes in customer trends over the past year.
"I think we're seeing a lot of new faces out of the City, out of Chicago," Sari remarked.
The staff at Sumbaum pride themselves on being known for their customer service, getting to know each and every customer and his or her particular cycling interests.
"Customer service is Number One," Sari emphasized. "It keeps us alive."
Since 1975, Sumbaum has operated at 114 N. Larkin Ave., and Ted Sari has owned and operated Sumbaum the past 37 years. The Joliet bicycle store on the city's west side has four long-time employees who are all experienced cyclists.
