A life-long resident of the city of Joliet, Dr. Glenda Wright-McCullum came from the most unpretentious beginnings. During her tenure in Joliet, she has resided in every sector of the city, ingrained in multiple environments, and connected with people from all walks of life, affording her the unique experience and ability to appreciate individuals from multiple spheres.

She has been active in public service in a ministerial and community capacity for over 30 years. Dr. Wright-McCullum received an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from St. Thomas Christian College, an Associate Degree from Joliet Junior College, graduating with high honors, Phi Theta Kappa, and is currently furthering her ministerial studies at Price University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Dr. McCullum established two 501c3 organizations designed to impact under-served youth and empower women to reach their full potential. Her reputation within the community is of notable mention. Having been appointed to the position of Vice Chairman on the Housing Authority of Joliet’s Board of Commissioners furthers her endeavor to advocate for affordable housing within the city.

Dr. Glenda was recently asked the question: “If there was one thing that you could do for the rest of your life, what would it be?” She did not hesitate to answer: “To serve the citizens of this great city, and endeavor to do all that I can to impact their lives through the concept of the acronym “B.U.I.L.D.” Build, Unite, Involve, Lead and Develop for city transformation.”

Dr. Wright-McCullum’s plan is to:

  • Build by focusing on the infrastructure of the under-developed areas of the city,
  • Unite and bridge the gap of inequality between community leaders and city officials
  • Involve the community to create a strong, viable union by working together
  • Lead by demonstrating integrity, trust, honesty and accountability
  • Develop and promote economic and educational empowerment in the sub-standard sectors of the city to mirror other thriving areas within the city.

Dr. Glenda will be a true voice for the people, with the people and on behalf of the people! Her mantra is “Together, We Are Stronger” forging a strong, viable union between city leaders, community leaders and the citizens or Joliet. Her passion is rooted in understanding that “Cities will grow and thrive when the leaders understand the needs of its communities, use wisdom to successfully address those needs, and exercise proper judgment in order to produce favorable outcomes”.
