Violent Joliet Man Sends Woman To St. Joe's Emergency Room After Motel Room Attack: Police

JOLIET, IL ? The Joliet Police Department announced the arrest of 31-year-old Joshua Mercado on charges of aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence in connection with a violent attack upon a woman inside the Red Roof Inn on Joliet's McDonough Street.

Joliet police said the attack happened on Oct. 25 and the woman went to St. Joe's hospital's Emergency Room.

According to the arrest reports, on October 26, at 8:26 a.m., the officers responded to St. Joseph Medical Center for a domestic battery victim in the emergency room. The victim was allegedly attacked by Mercado, during the late evening hours of October 25 at the Red Roof Inn, 1750 McDonough Street, Joliet police noted.

"It is believed that during an argument, Mercado punched, kicked, and choked the victim, causing serious injuries," police spokesman Dwayne English noted. He said that Mercado then took her phone from her to stop her from calling 911. The victim fled the room later after Mercado returned her phone.

The victim was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle. Officers were unsuccessful in locating Mercado at the time.

Then over the weekend, Joliet police took Mercado into custody without incident at 8:32 p.m. Saturday, after officers located him in a guest room at the Motel 6, 1850 McDonough Street.

Mercado was processed at the Joliet Police Department and transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. Mercado comes from the 1400 block of Joliet's Lakewood Drive. As of Tuesday night, he remained in the Will County Jail. He was also kept in the county jail facility in March of 2022.
