Will County Executive Larry Walsh was recently honored with the 2019 Frank Turk Jr. Business and Community Achievement award by the Will County Center for Economic Development (CED). The award is presented almost annually to individuals who demonstrate a lifetime commitment to improving the quality of life for Will County residents.

“To improve the quality of life is paramount for the success of any community and Larry Walsh has been tireless in his work and commitment in making Will County a better place for both businesses and residents to thrive,” said John Greuling, President and CEO of the CED. “Successful partnerships with people like Larry are what makes Will County work. I am always proud to stand next to Larry, everyone knows him.”

For 50 years, Walsh has served in public office, including the last 15 years as County Executive. Through the years, he has taken a bipartisan approach to his work and maintained an open-door policy.

“I have been gifted by all the things I have been involved with,” Walsh said. “I always want to help people and I have made it my goal to help anyone who asks me. I have dedicated my career as county executive to keeping Will County a great place to live, work, have a business and raise a family. The CED has been a strong promoter of our county and has helped bring many economic opportunities across our county.”

The award comes on the heels of Walsh’s last full year in office. In August, Walsh announced that he will not seek reelection in 2020, as he focuses on his health.

“I have had a great run,” said Walsh. “With all the people I have met, worked, and played over the years, I am truly blessed.”

Walsh joins a great list of past honorees including Mike Hennessy (2018), Jim Roolf (2017), Paul Pawlak (2016), Brother James Gaffney (2015), Kevin Reardon (2014), and Robert Rogina (2013). The award was named for Frank Turk Jr., who was a lifelong Joliet resident and co-founder of the CED. He also served as the CED’s President from 1982 to 1984. In 2013, the award was created upon his death to recognize and honor his commitment and contributions to the CED.
