10 Applicants File for District 1 Seat
The council will select the member during a public meeting on Thursday.
Ten people from District 1 filed applications to fill the Anne Arundel County Council seat left vacant by Daryl Jones as of Friday's deadline, according to The Baltimore Sun.

“I had no intention of seeking office, but I felt like someone needed to step in because there are a lot of important issues coming down the pike, and District 1 needs effective leadership,” Jones said in an interview with Patch.
Another applicant, Linthicum resident Rik Forgo, ran against Daryl Jones in the 2006 primary.

"I think my experience and energy make my a well qualified candidate for that position," he said in an email to Patch.
Forgo said he's been active in the community for more than 15 years, serving as chairman of the the BWI-Linthicum Small Area Planning Committee and founding the North County Coalition of Community Organizations, according to his resume.

Daryl Jones of Severn was after he for failing to file 35 federal income tax reports between 2002-2006. He began serving a five-month sentence in January.
The County Council on Jan. 17.
