Air Force One Chief Navigator to Speak at Anne Arundel County Museum

Lt. Col. Calvin Ball will visit the Captain Avery Museum in Shady Side for its winter luncheon on Jan. 21.

Ever wonder what it’s like to ride on Air Force One? Well, the presidential aircraft’s chief navigator will give attendees of the Captain Avery Museum’s Winter Luncheon a special peek into life aboard the plane.

Lt. Col. Calvin Ball served more than 11 years with the Presidential Airlift Group, the White House Military Office organization that has operated and maintained presidential aircrafts for more than 70 years.

Held on Wednesday, Jan. 21, Ball’s visit to the museum begins at 11:30 a.m. and follows with a lunch of homemade soup, specialty bread and dessert.

This program is one of six luncheons hosted by the Shady Side museum that feature authors, historians and researchers in unique fields and with stories to share. The museum will hold luncheons each Wednesday from Jan. 14 through Feb. 18.

Admission to Ball’s luncheon is $20 per person. Reserve a seat on the Captain Avery Museum website or by calling Peggy Tucker at 410-266-8846.

The Captain Avery Museum, located at 1418 East West Shady Side Rd. in Shadyside, sponsors a number of events throughout the year, including a Maryland house and garden pilgrimage that leads attendees throughout Anne Arundel County to visit historic homes that are usually closed to the public.
