August 3-7 Advanced Youth Police Academy
The Youth Police Academy will provide children with an inside look at local law enforcement and is designed to inspire good citizenship through criminal justice education. The program is for kids who will turn 14 this year to 18 years old. There is a $100 fee that covers lunch, academy uniform, all police related equipment needed, and a field trip/fun day.
The Advanced Youth Police Academy in August is for kids who complete the Youth Police Academy and want to continue their education, possibly joining Police Explorers Post 199. The cost for this camp is also $100. Contact Officer Ryan Thiel at 410-268-9000 ext. 5778 or rjthiel@annapolis.gov for more information.
In the Youth Fishing Camp, officers will work with youths to teach them how to fish. This long-time camp educates children about basic fishing techniques and water safety, as well as promotes the idea of environmental stewardship. There’s no charge for this camp and kids are nominated to attend by school counselors and community center staff. If you know a child who would benefit from this experience, contact Officer Danette Smikle at 410-268-9000 ext. 7368 or dasmikle@annapolis.gov.
The Safety Camp is a two-day camp that will cover basic safety skills for elementary school aged children. Topics covered will include: fire safety, animal safety, sports injuries, and bicycle safety. This camp is free. Contact Officer Ryan Thiel at 410-268-9000 ext. 5778 or jthiel@annapolis.gov for more information.
