Area Senior Centers Announce June Events
The Pascal and Brooklyn Park senior centers recently released their planned activities for June.

Here's a list of planned activities at the Pascal and Brooklyn Park senior centers, according to press releases from the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities.

- June 7—The South County Show Stoppers will perform a variety of dancing, singing, comedy and fun entertainment at 12:30 p.m.
- June 8—Members can see The Iron Lady at 12:15 p.m.
- June 14—“Tom Connelly: The Elvisman” is scheduled to perform at 12:30 p.m.
- June 18—The UnFinished Objects workshop will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. to assist members with your unfinished projects. Ann Hall will help you with getting projects to completion. Participants should bring craft materials, tools and instructions and indicate what craft will be worked on at registration. Light snacks will be provided.
- June 19—The annual picnic at Kurtz’s Beach in Pasadena to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. DJ Will Sank of Flamingo Express will provide music for dancing. This year the committee has chosen a nautical theme. Attendees are encouraged to dress prepared to set sail. Pascal Seniors Inc. is subsidizing the cost of the event so tickets are only $15 per person.
- June 21—American folk artist Bruce Hutton will perform and educate the audience at 12:30 p.m. at this Grandparents Special. School-aged grandchildren are invited to be introduced to folk instruments. The free program is sponsored by the Pascal Seniors Inc. and a grant from the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County.
- June 22—A Men’s Health and Fitness Breakfast weill be held from 7:30 to 10 a.m. with one-stop shopping for information and resources to help male center members stay active and healthy. The event will have speakers, displays and participatory activities. Prize drawings will be held for participants. The day includes a walk on the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail, nutrition information, demonstrations and more.
- June 26—Vocalist and puppeteer Jack Foreaker will perform songs from favorite musicals as well as patriotic numbers at 12:30 p.m. in this Grandparents Special. The free program is courtesy of the Pascal Seniors Inc. and a grant from the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County.
- June 26—The AARP Driver Safety Course will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. Payment is due at sign-up. The course helps seniors improve their driving and accident prevention skills.
- June 27—The Goldenaires, a group of more than 20 senior musicians from the Florence Bain Senior Center in Columbia will conduct a free community concert featuring swing and Big Band music at 12:30 p.m. Dancers are welcome.

- June 12—Chefs on the Go will present "Cooking the Lebanese Way" from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The main course will be sayadich (a fish and rice stew), a fattousch (salad) and a festival rice dessert. The cost is $4.
- June 14—The Anne Arundel Community Action Agency’s Empowerment Services Division will present “Understanding how Reverse Mortgages Work” from 10 to 11:15 a.m. The program is free.
- June 15—The Brooklyn Park Ladies will celebrate dads with a “Father’s Day Mini-Car Wash” from 9 to 10 a.m. The first eight fathers to arrive at the center will receive a hand-washed exterior car wash and an air freshener. No motorcycles, trucks or mini-vans will be allowed.
- June 15—Last day to register via paper for the summer session classes offered by Anne Arundel Community College.
- June 18—Men’s Health Day Part II is set for 10 to 11 a.m. with Sheryl C. Hoehner, registered dietitian. Men will receive information on their nutritional needs, which are different from those of women.
- June 19—The Volunteer Lunch will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with entertainment. The center relies heavily on volunteers who serve on committees, recruit other volunteers, provide clerical support, serve meals and provide other services.
- June 25—Genesis Hammonds Lane Center will send a representative to talk on “How to Prevent Slips, Trips and Falls” from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.
- June 28—Riverside Carnival Band will play at the birthday celebration from noon to 1 p.m. at the center.
- June 29—Take a trip to Downs Park at 9:30 a.m. June 29. Stroll on the park walking trails, enjoy the views of the Chesapeake Bay, sit under a tree and relax. Bring a picnic lunch. The cost is $6. Return is at 1:30 p.m.
