Attorney for Glen Burnie Teacher Speaks Out

Laura Robinson, attorney for Jeffrey Sears Jr., urged the community not to rush to judge the man accused of having sexual relationships with three teens, according to the Maryland Gazette.

The attorney for a English teacher accused of having sex with three teenage girls spoke out Monday, urging the community to not let emotions get in the way of the evidence, the Maryland Gazette reported.

In an interview with the Gazette, Laura Robinson, attorney for Jeffrey Sears Jr., 29, said she had not yet seen any evidence but pointed to the Duke University incident in which three lacrosse players were accused of rape in 2006 and eventually exonerated.

Sears is accused of ranging in age from 15 to 16 while they were students at Glen Burnie High. Police said the incidents reportedly took place both on and off campus, during and after school hours, between November 2009 and October 2011.

Sears is charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse of a minor, multiple counts of fourth-degree sex offense, third-degree sex offense, multiple counts of perverted practice, sexual solicitation of a minor and multiple assault charges. Sears, who began teaching at the school in 2006, previously was the coach of the junior varsity boys basketball team.

Robinson told the Gazette that Sears is married with a 20-month-old child.
