Baltimore Man Facing Drug Distribution, Forged Currency Charges

A Baltimore man's alleged use of counterfeit money to pay for a hotel room in Linthicum led police to arrest him on forged currency and drug distribution charges, police said.

Diarra W. Scott, 37, of the unit block of Mount De Sales Road in Baltimore was charged with two counts of possessing/issuing forged currency, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and other related charges.

According to an Anne Arundel County police press release, officers responded to the Red Roof Inn located in the 800 block of Elkridge Landing Road in Linthicum at about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday for the reported use of counterfeit money.

The innkeeper told police that Scott used counterfeit money to pay for his room. Officers located Scott as he attempted to drive away from the parking lot and conducted a traffic stop, smelling the "distinct and overwhelming odor of suspected marijuana emanating from the vehicle," according to the release.

Officers searched the vehicle and seized 1.1 pounds of marijuana packaged to be sold, $2,448 in cash and $640 in counterfeit money.
