BWMC Names 2012 Nurse of the Year

Pearl Smith, a Glen Burnie native and Severn resident, is a registered nurse who has worked at Baltimore Washington Medical Center since 1986.

(BWMC) recently named Glen Burnie native Pearl Smith as its Nurse of the Year for 2012.

Smith, who currently lives in Severn, is a registered nurse in the post anesthesia care unit and has worked at the hospital since 1986, according to a press release from BWMC.

“I’m stunned, I had no idea I was going to win and feel there are so many other deserving nurses who could have won this award,” Smith said in the release. “I can’t believe it.”

Smith graduated from nursing school from Anne Arundel Community College and started working at BWMC shortly after.

“I always enjoyed science and working with people, so nursing was a perfect fit and truly my calling,” she said of her decision to become a nurse, according to the release.

Smith, a 26-year veteran nurse, has worked in several departments including the emergency department, intensive care unit and pediatrics.

“Our job has always been the same, to provide the best care and outcome possible for our patients,” Smith said in the release.
