Can Spring Be Far Behind?

The 2018 Maryland Home & Garden Show

Are you ready for the 2018 Maryland Home & Garden Show?

It’s been a long time since I wrote an article for Patch. A lot has happened since then, but I’m back and raring to go. Let me reintroduce myself: I teach several methods of no-till, small-space, high intensive vegetable and herb gardening with an emphasis on the famous Square Foot Gardening method developed by the late Mel Bartholomew more than 40 years ago. Mel, a best-selling author of several books, served as my mentor and the last few years of his life I was one of his executive administrators. I am the administrator for the Square Foot Gardening Foundation Facebook page and teach their Certified Instructor course. You can check out my past articles here on Patch.

It’s that time of year again, time for the Maryland Home & Garden Show. I’m honored to be giving my eighth seminar on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 3:00 in the Theater near the food court. This year’s topic will be “Easy Veggies and Herbs” and will focus on easy to grow and quick growing vegetables and herbs.

This year’s show theme is Planes, Trains and Automobiles and the landscapers will incorporate one or more of these elements in their garden design. There will be more than 400 exhibitors in the home and garden field. There’s also a Craft Show with over 125 crafters and free shuttle bus service between the two buildings.

Last year I really enjoyed the Butterfly Exhibit where visitors can go in and feed these spectacular creatures. Another fun place is the Petting Zoo.

The first weekend, March 3 & 4, in addition to me, there will be several speakers giving seminars on diverse topics. The featured speaker will be Nicole Sherry, “Baltimore’s Pro Baseball Groundskeeper”.

The second weekend, March 9-11, the Theater is transformed into the Orchid Show and Sale by the Maryland Orchid Society. Is there anything more beautiful and exotic than orchids?

S&L Productions has put on the Show since 1981 and It’s been located at the Timonium Fairgrounds since 1991. For more information on speakers, exhibitors, hours and more, go to the Home & Garden Show website at https://mdhomeandgarden.com/.
