Cancer Survivor, 8, Raises Money for the Cause

The arrangements are in place.

The ring-toss board is built. The signs are made. The entertainment is booked. Now all 8-year-old Brasen VonMoose-Lemin has left to do Saturday is spend his $4 on games.

"I want [my classmates] to know that leukemia's hard to go through," Brasen said.

The second-grader is hosting a fundraiser at his school Saturday to raise money for the hospital that helped him get well. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Brasen—whose name means God's gift, his mother Cherie VonMoose-Lemin said—was diagnosed with leukemia in 2008 and treated at the University of Maryland Children's Hospital. to "his hospital," and this year he hopes to raise more.

"I'll do it until no more kids have leukemia and they don't have to go get needles," he said.

As of November 2011, Brasen has been chemo-free and said he feels "good." He started playing baseball this year and has bowled in a duckpin league for a while.

And he's excited for Saturday.

"I'm excited about the moon bounce. And I have $4 for games," he said.

Games will run from 50 cents to $1 and include bowling, a ring toss and a bean bag toss for kids, said Brasen's father Donald Lemin.

They'll also raffle off 17 baskets filled with goodies and sell lemonade, brownies—donated by —and other baked goods.

Last year, the event was held the same weekend that the school participated in a at the . This year, there are no conflicts.

"It's going to be bigger than last year and we're also hoping to do a lot better than last year," Donald Lemin said.

"The whole class knows about it this year," Brasen added.
